New Pharmaceutical Factory Set for Commissioning in Ogun State This Weekend
A pharmaceutical company specializing in the production of medication kits for treating diabetes, hypertension, and heart-related diseases is set to be commissioned in Ogun State this weekend. Codix Bio Pharmaceutical Company, led by CEO Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, made the announcement during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s office in Abeokuta.
The factory, located along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, focuses on cardio-metabolic health related to diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Ogunjimi highlighted the significance of African investors manufacturing medical kits locally, rather than relying on imports.
The CEO also mentioned that the company has partnered with the World Health Organization (WHO) on technology transfer to build capacity for the manufacturing of Rapid Diagnostics Test, starting with HIV, malaria and others within the company. The factory’s products will not only serve Nigeria but also the entire African continent. Ogunjimi expressed his commitment to creating an ecosystem for the industry, including producing plastics for test kits, which are currently imported from China and India.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the need for capacity building to meet the knowledge requirements for emerging industries in the state. He stressed the importance of investing in education and creating courses that match the needs of investors. Abiodun also commended Codix Bio Pharmaceutical Company for its capacity-building initiative with Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s efforts to reposition the healthcare sector, including renovating over 100 Primary Healthcare Centres and earmarking more than 70 for rehabilitation. He expressed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with genuine investors to strengthen the healthcare sector and prepare for unforeseen circumstances.
Abiodun welcomed the investment, stating that it aligns with the administration’s vision to achieve 70% local production of pharmaceutical equipment and drugs by 2030. He noted that the factory will be the first large-scale RDT manufacturing plant in Nigeria and the second largest in sub-Saharan Africa, and commended the company for taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to invest in the healthcare sector.
