Nigerian public commentator Mahdi Shehu has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to shift his focus from intimidating weaker nations to confronting China’s rising assertiveness. Shehu made this appeal in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting China’s recent bold warnings to the United States as a display of courage and confidence.
Shehu argued that while many world leaders tend to submit to or fear America’s dominance, China is increasingly challenging that narrative. He pointed out that China openly warned the U.S. that it would retaliate within hours if America ever launched a first strike. This warning, Shehu suggests, reflects China’s readiness to stand firm against U.S. aggression.
The Nigerian commentator urged Trump to prioritize addressing China’s challenge rather than focusing on intimidating smaller nations. He implied that such tactics are driven by a desire to access valuable resources, notably rare earth minerals, which are crucial for modern technology and military applications.
Shehu’s remarks were accompanied by a video in which China asserts it would not initiate conflict but is fully prepared to respond if provoked. The video also claims that China possesses an advanced nuclear arsenal, including 61 nuclear weapons—comprising 60 nuclear bombs and a hydrogen bomb. Notably, China claims to be the only country possessing a hydrogen bomb, underscoring its growing military capabilities.
