Nigerian Singer Oladips Criticizes EFCC Over Extortion and Poor Conditions in Detention.
Nigerian rapper Oladips has publicly accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of extorting him, claiming that they collected N10 million from him before releasing him after his recent detention. Oladips made this allegation nearly a year after he was detained during a midnight raid on his estate in November 2024, alongside some neighbors, on suspicion of involvement in fraud.
Oladips revealed that after five days in detention, nothing incriminating was found on him. However, he alleged that the EFCC demanded and took N10 million before they finally released him. In an interview on Trending podcast, he expressed his frustration, saying, “Nigeria just happened to me,” lamenting the harsh treatment he received.
He described his experience in detention as unpleasant, stating that they were packed like sardines and fed poor-quality food. Interestingly, he mentioned that Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile was kind enough to send him food from outside the detention center, despite not being close friends, describing Zlatan as “my blood.”
When asked if he would pursue the matter legally or let it go, Oladips responded sharply, “Who is my father?” emphasizing the difficulties he faces navigating Nigeria’s system. He questioned the integrity of the EFCC, stating that they didn’t find anything on him and still collected money before releasing him. “What was the money for? What was all that stress and suffering for? It’s just Nigeria. Nigeria just happened to me,” he lamented.
Oladips concluded that he is speaking his truth and does not intend to take further action, expressing disappointment with the Nigerian system and the corruption he perceives within it.
