NSF: NATIONAL SPORTS COMMISSION UNVEILS MASCOT, LOGO, AND ANTHEM
The National Sports Commission has officially launched the logo, theme song, and mascot for the upcoming Sports Festival, dubbed the Nigerian Olympics, in anticipation of the event.
During the unveiling ceremony at the June 12 Cultural Center in Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun expressed his administration’s ambition to position the state as the leading hub for sports tourism and athletic excellence in Nigeria.
Governor Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, praised the dedication of coaches, technical staff, and athletes involved in the preparations, assuring that every effort would be made to ensure the state’s participants are fully equipped for success.
The governor emphasized Ogun State’s readiness to host the festival, promising to elevate the standards significantly. He commended the Local Organising Committee, various sports associations, and agencies for their hard work in ensuring all facilities and details are meticulously arranged.
He articulated that sports transcend mere competition; they serve as a unifier and a platform for discovery. He encouraged parents and guardians to support young athletes, suggesting that the festival could serve as a launching pad for national recognition and international accomplishment.
“Ogun 2024 isn’t just a celebration for Ogun State; it’s a national festival. We are fully prepared to host, and we invite everyone to collaborate in making this an unforgettable showcase of talent, unity, and pride. We urge our partners in both public and private sectors to join us. To the media, help share the excitement. Nigerians, save the dates from May 16 to May 31 to witness an extraordinary event in Ogun State,” he stated.
Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, praised Governor Abiodun for revolutionizing sports and sporting facilities in Ogun State. He noted that this would be the first time 15,000 young athletes would gather under Olympic-standard conditions.
Olopade also highlighted the new digital feeding system, marking a milestone in sports administration as stakeholders from across the country collaborated to achieve it. He commended the governor for revitalizing major sports complexes across the state.
“Before the first whistle blows, there’s already a consensus among stakeholders that we will be hosting the best festival ever,” he declared.
Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, lauded Governor Abiodun’s commitment to nurturing future generations through sports, underscoring the National Sports Festival as a significant investment in the sports sector. He remarked that the state government’s substantial contributions would create a legacy of hope and inspiration for emerging athletes.
The 22nd edition of this prestigious festival, promising to be the most remarkable in its history, will celebrate Nigeria’s vibrant sports and cultural legacy, featuring 33 different sports.
