“NURTW Chairman Sego Escapes Assassination Attempt as Armed Men Raid His Surulere Home”

Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), narrowly avoided an assassination attempt on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Six armed intruders invaded his home in Surulere, Lagos, but Sego was fortunate to be away at the time.

Reports indicate that the assailants arrived at Sego’s residence on Gbadamosi Close around 11 p.m., where they found only the security guard, whom they bound before searching the house for the union leader. Sego had departed earlier for an event with several associates who had visited him earlier that day.

The brazen attack has left the local community rattled, with residents expressing fears that the armed men may return.

Officers from the Area C Police Command were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the situation and document the damages. They also interviewed the security guard, who provided crucial information to assist in the ongoing investigation.

A close associate of Sego revealed that the NURTW chairman is alarmed by the targeting and is particularly focused on implementing reforms to enhance the welfare of union members. The associate also stated that Sego is committed to cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
