NYSC DG Advises Corps Members to Avoid Unnecessary Journeys
Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has cautioned corps members against unnecessary journeys that may expose them to accidents, kidnappings, and other risks. The advice was given during an address to corps members and camp officials at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.
The Director-General reiterated NYSC’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and security of corps members across the country. He urged corps members to refrain from seeking unnecessary relocations to other states, emphasizing the importance of a smooth service year experience.
Encouraging active participation in Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) trainings, the DG highlighted NYSC’s collaboration with banks and foundations to provide interest-free loans for corps members with marketable skills and innovative ideas.
In addressing security concerns, Gen. Ahmed mentioned that security agencies had assured the NYSC of patrols and guards along routes to orientation camps, ensuring the safety of prospective corps members attending the orientation programme.
He emphasized the organization’s focus on technologically driven skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development training, aiming to make corps members self-reliant and potential employers.
The NYSC Coordinator in Oyo State, Mr. Abel Odoba, commended corps members for their impressive and mature conduct during the orientation exercise. He sought support from the Director-General and other well-meaning Nigerians for the completion of a 5,000-capacity ultra-modern multipurpose hall for the use of corps members during the orientation course in the camp.
