OGSG Embarks on Light-Up Project, Targets Abeokuta, Ota, Ijebu-Ode, and Sagamu
The Ogun State Government has commenced the first phase of its Light-Up Ogun State project, an initiative aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the state. Governor Dapo Abiodun, during an inspection of the project site in Ewekoro earlier today, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in installing turbines for power generation.
This phase of the project will generate 30 megawatts of electricity, primarily for Abeokuta, as part of a broader plan to produce 100 megawatts across the state. The initiative follows the Federal Government’s removal of power generation, distribution, and transmission from the exclusive legislative list, a move that has allowed states to take full control of their electricity needs. Governor Abiodun emphasized that Ogun State has not only enacted the necessary laws but has also begun full-scale implementation.
During the inspection, the governor visited the control room and assessed the installed equipment, including the first two turbines. The power plant, designed as a dual-fired system, will operate on both gas and diesel to ensure a stable power supply, even in cases of gas disruption.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding the project to other major cities, including Ota, Ijebu-Ode, and Sagamu. He further stated that the plant is expected to be commissioned within the next eight weeks, marking another milestone in the state’s drive toward energy sustainability and economic growth.
The Light-Up Ogun State project aligns with the government’s vision of industrial development and improved living standards for residents. With uninterrupted power supply on the horizon, Ogun State is positioning itself as a hub for business and innovation.
