OGSG Mobilizes Stakeholders for Integrated Measles Campaign

The Ogun State Government has called on stakeholders to support the upcoming Integrated Measles Campaign, scheduled for September 21-25, 2024. The campaign aims to vaccinate children aged 9 months to 5 years against measles, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease.

At the State Social Mobilisation and Technical Committee (S-SOMTEC) meeting, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Waheed Adesina, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, donor agencies, and stakeholders in ensuring the success of the campaign.

UNICEF Social and Behavioural Change Consultant, Dr. Pita Obam, presented the campaign’s objectives and strategies, highlighting the safety and effectiveness of the measles vaccine. He noted that the disease can cause severe complications, including brain damage, blindness, and death, and emphasized the need for extensive coverage during the campaign.

Director of Information, Production Services, Kemi Ewedairo-Yusuf, commended the S-SOMTEC platform, established in collaboration with UNICEF, for its role in improving the health status of mothers and children in the state.

The campaign aims to achieve 97% vaccination coverage, with two doses of the vaccine providing optimal protection against measles. Stakeholders are urged to support the campaign to ensure the well-being of mothers and children in Ogun State.
