OGSG Shuts Down Phoenix Steel Mill Industries After Gas Explosion
Ogun State Government have reacted immediately to sealing the Iron Rod Manufacturing Industry with immediate effect due to a recent gas explosion at Phoenix Steel Mills Industries Limited in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government.
The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the explosion site that significantly impacted the company’s production line
The closure, according to Oresanya, aligns with established protocols governing engagement with industries in the state. He emphasized that the government will conduct a comprehensive investigation into both the remote and immediate causes of the explosion. The objective is to determine preventive measures and safety conditions that should be enforced to avert future occurrences.
The investigation, as outlined by Oresanya, will not only focus on safeguarding the well-being of the company’s workers but also protecting the properties of the immediate communities affected by the gas explosion. The closure serves as an immediate measure to mitigate potential risks and ensure public safety.
Seven workers from Phoenix Steel Mills Industries Limited sustained serious injuries in the explosion. Currently hospitalized in an Ikorodu facility in Lagos state, their conditions are being closely monitored.
