Ogun Community Rejects New Oba’s Installation Amid Procedural Irregularities

A storm is brewing in Orile-Imo, Ogun State, as the community flatly rejects the installation of Chief Reuben Sogaolu as their new Oba. The Council of Baales, a group of respected leaders, has come out swinging, citing a blatant disregard for traditional procedures and a lack of community involvement.
In a scathing communiqué, the council expressed outrage on behalf of the Imo Traditional Council, youth groups, market women, and religious leaders. They claim that the Imo Traditional Council, a vital stakeholder in the selection process, was left in the dark about Sogaolu’s installation by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
At the heart of the dispute is the question of who should be Oba. The council argues that Sogaolu, who has little connection to the community beyond his lineage, doesn’t fit the bill. They want a leader who knows and loves the town, someone who has invested time and effort into its development.
In a message to Governor Abiodun and the public, the Council of Baales cautioned that the Alake’s actions could spark unrest in Orile-Imo. They vowed to explore every legal avenue to ensure the people’s will prevails, hinting at a long and bitter fight ahead.
