Ogun Lawmaker Details Reasons Behind Speaker Oluomo’s Removal

Damilola Soneye, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker in the Ogun Assembly representing Obafemi Owode State Constituency, has provided insights into the removal of the former speaker, Kunle Oluomo, citing alleged gross misconduct as the primary reason.

Soneye, in explaining the decision, emphasized that the role of the speaker should be one of equality among colleagues. However, he noted that Oluomo’s conduct suggested a disregard for this principle, displaying traits of high-handedness, lack of focus, transparency, arrogance, poor leadership style, financial misappropriation, and inciting members against each other.

Oluomo, who was removed by 18 lawmakers during plenary, faced the allegations in a 26-member Assembly. The circumstances regarding the attendance of Oluomo’s supporters during the removal remain unclear, as 18 lawmakers signed the notice.

The plenary session, presided over by Deputy Speaker Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi (APC-Yewa South), saw Oludaisi Elemide elected to replace Oluomo, representing Ifo 1 State Constituency.

Adegoke Adeyanju (APC-Yewa North 1) moved the motion for the speaker’s removal, seconded by Ademola Adeniran (APC-Sagamu11). Following his election, Elemide assured the citizens of a positive leadership change, emphasizing their commitment to supporting Governor Dapo Abiodun, stating that the governor was not involved in the removal process.
