Ogun Police Apprehend Three Suspects for Attempted Murder of Motorcycle Rider

Ogun State Police Command has arrested three individuals, identified as Monsuru Musa, Adija Monsuru, and Shehu Dikko, in relation to the alleged attempted murder of a commercial motorcycle rider known as Tijanni in the Afonta area of Abeokuta.

The incident, which occurred last Monday around 6:10 pm, resulted in severe injuries to the motorcyclist’s head, neck, and lower lip. According to a police source, trouble arose when Monsuru engaged Tijanni for a ride from Lafenwa in Abeokuta to the Soyeye area. The situation took a dark turn when, just before reaching Soyeye, Monsuru instructed Tijanni to stop, claiming she needed to call a friend traveling the same route.

Shortly after the call, two additional suspects, Musa and Dikko, arrived at the scene and joined Monsuru on the motorcycle. During the chilling encounter, Musa and Dikko attempted to strangle Tijanni by tying a rope around his neck while turning the ignition. Simultaneously, Monsuru allegedly struck the motorcyclist on the head with a large wooden plank, prompting Tijanni to cry out for help.

The commotion attracted other motorcyclists, residents, and a team of police officers who swiftly intervened, preventing the suspects from escaping into a nearby bush.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, revealed that the suspects were part of a notorious syndicate with intentions to steal the motorcycle. Omolola stated, “The three suspects are members of the same syndicate. They specialize in stealing motorcycles. They have been arrested and will be prosecuted.” She added that the victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention.

This incident follows a similar pattern of criminality in the region, as last year, operatives of the Amotekun Corps arrested a 40-year-old suspect for attempting to murder a motorcyclist, Mohammed Bashiru, in the Remo area of the state. In that case, the assailant, posing as a passenger, used a knife to inflict injury on the motorcyclist before making off with the motorcycle.
