Ogun Police Detain Inspector Over Alleged Assault and Extortion

The Ogun State Police Command has taken swift action in response to a viral video capturing the alleged assault and extortion of a 24-year-old woman at a checkpoint near Tai Solarin University of Education.

 

The inspector involved has been detained and is now facing an orderly room trial, as announced by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, Today.

 

The inspector’s actions came to light after a complaint was filed by Soyemi Abidemi Funmilola, the victim of the alleged assault. The State Criminal Investigation Department conducted a thorough investigation, confirming the officer’s misconduct. The inquiry also revealed the tracing of the account into which the extorted money was deposited, with the recovered funds marked as exhibits.

 

Omolola Odutola stated, “The Inspector, rank, and file have been detained for orderly room trial, and the officer involved has been issued an official query, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha with the Provost department overseeing the disciplinary proceedings.”

 

The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct by police personnel. Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has consistently stressed the importance of respecting citizens’ fundamental human rights during various lectures conducted for officers and men of the Command. The Commissioner warned that any officer infringing on public rights will face sanctions.

 

The family of the complainant has been contacted and is in communication with the Commissioner of Police. The Commissioner assured that the officers involved will be held accountable for their failure to adhere to the rules and regulations of the force. The Ogun State Police Command remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of residents and their properties.
