Ogun Police Storm Criminal Enclaves in Ogun, Sound Yuletide Security Alert
The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its efforts to prevent crime and criminality across the state. As part of this initiative, the command has launched a series of raids on notorious hotspots and villages along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, “the raids have become a routine affair in Ogun State, aimed at nipping crime in the bud before it escalates.”
During a recent raid by the Sagamu division, 30 suspects were arrested, and several shanties suspected to be inhabited by hoodlums were destroyed. The recovered exhibits include dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, three daggers, two big industrial hammers, two saw cutters, iron rods and pipes, one constructed industrial spanner, one trailer/truck jack, one jack-knife, and a cable wire suspected to be stolen. Odutola noted that “a discreet investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated to the public.”
In a similar operation, the Ago Iwoye division arrested five suspects, including Sunday Ibrahim, Basirat Kareem, Kayode Salami, Ibrahim Jimoh, and Lekan Folorunso. The police also collaborated with the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Agbekoya to raid black spots in Ilese Ijebu, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of several vehicles, including five motorcycles, one tricycle, one unregistered Toyota Camry, and one 4Matic Benz car.
The command has urged members of the public to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activities. Odutola emphasized that “members of the public are enjoined to immediately get involved in crime prevention measures by volunteering anonymous and credible information to the command.”
She also reiterated that “one chance syndicates are still very much ongoing despite arresting some culprits recently.” As a precautionary measure, the police have advised users of commercial vehicles to take photos of the drivers and vehicles using their phones, which can be uploaded to the police department nearest to them.
Furthermore, the police have banned the use of fireworks during the Yuletide season. Odutola warned that “the use of fireworks is banned and illegal at this period. It is not only dangerous, but it also stirs panic and fear in the minds of the community, as many peaceful residents, especially the aged, may not be able to differentiate the sounds of fireworks and guns.” Anyone found violating this ban will be arrested.
