Ogun signs energy partnership with Chinese investors
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled a new partnership with Chinese investors to boost the state’s energy infrastructure and industrial growth.
In a statement posted on X on Saturday, the governor disclosed that talks with Jiangsu-based company Cteec focused on financing options, technical expertise, and the firm’s readiness to execute major energy projects in the state.
“Our discussions centered on three key areas of collaboration: improving power transmission and distribution across Ogun; developing an Industrial Park to attract Chinese manufacturers while integrating energy projects; and their pledge to provide a free 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Cargo Airport, which will immediately drive activities at the facility,” Abiodun stated.
He further noted that the visiting delegation would tour ongoing power distribution projects being handled by Sahara and Powergen, as part of efforts to guarantee a stable electricity supply across the state.
“The company, Cteec, based in Jiangsu, China, already has an investment footprint of 100MW in Nigeria and is now seeking to expand its operations further. Their interest covers power generation and distribution, investment in a dedicated state transmission network, and the establishment of an Industrial Park that will bring more Chinese manufacturers into Ogun State.
“This engagement is another testament to our commitment to building the energy backbone that will sustain Ogun State’s industrial growth and overall economic development,” Abiodun also said.
In related developments, reports indicate that maiden commercial flights from the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, to Abuja have sold out, with tickets for the following day also fully booked. The development underscores the airport’s readiness to serve as a hub for modern aviation and connectivity in Nigeria.
“From constructing roads that link our communities and ease the movement of people and goods, to delivering housing projects that provide affordable and decent homes for our citizens, we have stayed committed to building infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for our people.

Every step we take in infrastructure development lays the groundwork for a stronger and more prosperous Ogun State,” Governor Abiodun said, stressing his administration’s focus on infrastructure as the foundation of progress.
In August 2025, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority officially granted the Gateway International Airport an Aerodrome Operational Permit. Passenger flights are scheduled to commence on October 7, 2025, with ValueJet Airline operating twice weekly services.
