Ogun State Civil/Public Service Conducts Successful Promotion and Competency Exams for Over 860 Officers
No fewer than 863 officers in Ogun State Civil/Public Service participated in the June 2025 Combined/Promotion Tests and Compulsory Examinations for the Junior, Sub-Officer, and Officers Cadres. The exercise aims to uphold the standards and integrity of the Service.
During a monitoring visit to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, stated that the process aligns with existing laws governing the Service. It is a key requirement for confirming appointments of newly recruited officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including parastatals, corporations, and boards.
Mr. Onasanya emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the Civil Service and adherence to its rules and regulations to keep Ogun State among the leading states nationally. He explained that the biannual examinations serve as criteria for promotion eligibility, especially for officers involved in inter-cadre transfers. The exercise also helps officers familiarize themselves with rules, regulations, and procedures using reference materials.
Furthermore, the Head of Service announced plans to incorporate the Public Service Procurement Act into future exams. The upcoming editions will include specialized examinations for paramilitary officers, such as TRACE and Amotekun, to ensure they are well-versed in relevant laws and best practices. “This will deepen the capacity of our Service,” he remarked.
Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, who accompanied Mr. Onasanya, noted that the candidates included professional, sub-professional, and junior officers. She explained that the examination tests their ability to apply rules, regulations, and principles from statutory documents like the Public Service Rules (PSR), Financial Regulations, and other official guidelines in their daily duties.
Participants, including Adepeju Bankole from the Hospitals Management Board, Oreoluwa Ademola from the Office of the Auditor-General, and Ayoola Odufote from Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, praised the State Government for the smooth conduct of the exam. They commended the well-functioning computer systems and conducive environment provided for the exercise.
