Ogun State Commissioner for Education Pledges to Improve Access to Quality Education
The Ogun State Government has reiterated its dedication to providing free and qualitative education to all citizens, vowing to address the issue of out-of-school children in the state.
This commitment was made by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, during the First Term Pre-Resumption Stakeholders’ Meeting for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
The meeting, held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, brought together principals, headteachers, and parent clubs from public primary and secondary schools, as well as government technical colleges. Arigbabu stressed that the government’s free education policy is non-negotiable and warned that any reported cases of learners being sent home due to non-payment of school fees or levies would not be tolerated.
The commissioner highlighted the administration’s efforts to provide adequate facilities, including furniture and teaching materials, to ensure a smooth education process. He also announced plans to introduce a policy requiring each school to have space for farming, woodwork, and carpentry workshops, promoting food sustainability and maintenance culture.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, urged principals to maintain standards, monitor lessons, and impart safety tips. She also encouraged parents to invest in their children’s education by providing necessary materials.
Stakeholders, including the Principal General of Remo Block, Mrs. Olubunmi Womiloju, and the State President of ANCOPSS, Mr. Adeniyi Adekoya, commended the ministry for creating a platform for discussion and pledged their dedication to providing quality teaching and enforcing government policies.
Security experts, including ACP Manger Fergus and Superintendent Rachel Orishawo, offered tips for ensuring safety in and around school premises, highlighting the importance of cordial relationships with security agents, perimeter fencing, security cameras, and hiring security guards.
