Ogun State Enforces Environmental Laws, Seals Five Companies for Environmental Infraction

The Ogun State Government has shut down five companies for violating environmental regulations and operating illegally. The affected companies, Nixim Paper Limited, Long Xiang Aluminum, and New Shidai Manufacturing Limited, were sealed for releasing untreated wastewater into the environment, while two unregistered companies were closed for operating without proper authorization.

Farook Akintunde, Chairman of the Ogun State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, led the enforcement team, stating, “We received complaints from nearby communities about the companies’ reckless disregard for environmental standards. Despite issuing a Stop Work Order, they continued to pollute the environment, leaving us no choice but to seal their premises.”

The companies’ failure to install Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) and comply with wastewater regulations led to the shutdown. Oluwadare Kehinde, Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA, emphasized, “We will not compromise on environmental standards. Companies must adhere to the Ogun State Green Book guidelines to prevent water pollution and maintain quality standards.”

The sealed companies must now comply with environmental regulations and register with the state government before resuming operations.
