Ogun State Government Condemns Protest by Athletes Over Delay in Allowances
The Ogun State Government has described the recent protest by some athletes participating in the ongoing National Sports Festival as regrettable. The athletes, who are representing the state, staged the demonstration over delayed payment of their allowances.
In a statement issued by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, the government expressed disappointment, emphasizing that the protest was inconsistent with Ogun’s core values and objectives.
Akinmade explained that the athletes acted out of impatience, assuring that all necessary arrangements had been finalized for the disbursement of allowances, which were scheduled for payment on Tuesday.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun remains deeply committed to the welfare of all festival participants. Under no circumstances would Ogun allow its athletes to suffer or be neglected,” he stated.
He also described the protest as unnecessary and uncalled for, highlighting the success of Ogun’s hosting of the festival—from the grand opening ceremony to the outstanding performances by Team Ogun.
Furthermore, Akinmade confirmed that allowances had already been paid out, with athletes receiving bank alerts as scheduled.
“The protesters acted in error; it was simply a case of impatience,” he concluded.
