Ogun State Government Partners with NAFT to Promote French Language Education

The National Association of French Teachers (NAFT) in Ogun state held its 5th French Spelling Bee on Wednesday, in collaboration with Quality Assurance and Teacher Development. The event commemorated the thirty-seventh edition of The State French Competition.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye addressed participants, urging French teachers in Ogun state to be committed and strive to attain proficiency in French Language for effective impartation.

The Director of Education Support and Services, Obadiah Akindele, also spoke at the event, reiterating that the knowledge of French Language has opened doors of opportunities in all spheres of life in Nigeria, France, and other French-speaking countries such as Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, North and Sub-Saharan Africa, among others. Akindele enjoined teachers in Ogun State to awake and strive for better performance.

The spelling bee, drama, and quiz competition aimed to revive the dying desire for reading among students. The event emphasized the importance of vocabulary in the French Language and the need to develop accurate and correct spelling skills in learners.

The competition also provided an opportunity for students to showcase their language abilities and compete with their peers, thereby encouraging healthy competition and learning. The event was a success, and it is hoped that it will encourage more students to study French and other foreign languages.
