Ogun State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Environmental Sustainability at 2025 Management Retreat

The Ogun State government has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment through sustainable and efficient environmental management practices.
Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele made this pledge while declaring open the 2025 Management Retreat of the Ministry of Environment and its sister agencies—the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA).
The retreat, themed “Streamlining Policy Implementation Objectives in Environmental Governance”, took place in Abeokuta. Salako-Oyedele described the retreat as a strategic platform for reflection, planning, and realignment of the state’s environmental policies and governance framework.
She urged the ministry and its agencies to strengthen inter-agency collaboration for effective policy implementation and ensure alignment with national and global sustainability goals. She emphasised that a clean, safe, and well-managed environment is essential for economic growth, public health, and societal well-being.
Welcoming participants, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, stressed the importance of continuous manpower development through training to enhance management capacity. He noted that the retreat, the third in three years, was necessitated by the need for efficient service delivery and urged participants to maximise the opportunity.
In a goodwill message, the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr Jola Oyeneye, called on participants to prioritise environmental safety and the well-being of residents through effective policy enforcement.
The two-day retreat also featured awards of excellence for outstanding performance. Mrs Taiwo Adebiyi emerged as the best management staff in the Ministry of Environment, Mrs Yemisi Oshinaike was recognised for her contributions at OGEPA, and Mr Olajide Ayilara received accolades for his work at OGWAMA. Also, Mr Tunji Egbemuyiwa was named the 2025 Ogun State Environmental Ambassador.
