Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, made an unscheduled visit to the Shagamu-Benin Expressway to assess the extent of damage and understand the causes of its breakdown
The expressway, which connects Lagos to the southeast and south-south zones of the country, has been a source of hardship for travelers.
“I’ve come to see for myself, so that the state government can step in and ensure that work begins here immediately. This is a federal road, and it has been awarded by the previous administration, but the allocated funds for the project were not enough to get to this place”
“I’ve sought for the attention of the president, so the ministry of works can step in, if not, the state government will step in and ensure the total reconstruction of this road” Prince Dapo Abiodun said.
The governor’s visit follows numerous complaints and pleas from stakeholders in the state and Sagamu regarding the road’s repair.
Located at the interchange of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Shagamu-Benin Expressway is a critical transportation artery. Its deterioration has resulted in significant challenges for commuters traveling to and from Lagos and other destinations.
