Ogun State Governor Unveils Ambitious Plan for 10,000 New Housing Units by 2027

Ogun State Governor, Prince Abiodun, has unveiled an ambitious plan to address the housing deficit in the state by pledging the construction of approximately 10,000 housing units before the conclusion of his tenure in 2027. This announcement comes during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Mr. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the government’s proactive steps in tackling the housing challenge, citing the construction of over 4,000 houses across the state within four years. Despite facing hurdles such as the high cost of building materials, the governor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to meeting the housing needs of its citizens.

The governor emphasized the success of previous housing projects, including medium and upper-income houses that were fully sold out, providing essential amenities such as infrastructure, water, and internet facilities. Additionally, Governor Abiodun unveiled plans for a groundbreaking initiative called the “Civil Servants Village,” spanning 50 hectares of land, aimed at facilitating state workers’ access to land for home construction.

Recognizing the importance of trust and consultation in housing delivery, Governor Abiodun underscored the government’s commitment to aligning with the needs of the people to prevent the proliferation of uninhabitable estates. He also pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to provide affordable housing for Nigerians, emphasizing the role of housing in employment generation and achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun announced initiatives to enhance accessibility for Nigerians in the diaspora to purchase property in the state, including the establishment of an online platform for remote monitoring of property development.

Addressing the FHA delegation, Mr. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo commended the state government’s housing initiatives and revealed plans by the Federal Government to expedite the provision of affordable housing nationwide. He reiterated FHA’s commitment to collaborating with state governments to acquire land for diverse housing categories, including studio apartments for youths, and facilitating digitalization for diaspora property acquisition.

Governor Abiodun assured the FHA of the state government’s readiness to share its housing delivery experiences to support national housing objectives. He reiterated the availability of land for federal housing projects across the state, reaffirming the government’s dedication to fostering collaboration for sustainable housing development.
