Ogun State House of Assembly intervenes in the Igede leadership tussle in the state

A leadership crisis is currently brewing among the people of Igede, Benue State, who live in Ogun State.

The crisis follows moves by the Association of Igede People living in the 20 local governments of Ogun to have a new leader known as the Ad’Igede I.

It was gathered that an election was recently held to choose the new Ad’Igede I between two contestants, Onwuna Samuel and Onah Peter.

Our correspondents learnt that Samuel had won the election and had since July emerged the Ad’Igede I in Ogun.

However, it was gathered that his opponent, Peter, refused to accept defeat, a situation that is brewing discord among Igede indigenes residents in Ogun.

Consequently, Samuel was said to have written a petition against his opponent, asking the Ogun State House of Assembly to wade into the matter.

Reacting, the Ogun Assembly cautioned the Igede people living in the state to resolve their internal crisis regarding the election of Ad’Igede I, saying no ethnic or leadership tussle should hinder the peace being enjoyed in the State.

The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs Ajayi Bolanle, issued the warning during a peace parley held today at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Ajayi noted that Ogun is home to all, regardless of tribe, ethnicity or religion.
She urged both parties to resolve their leadership differences within 14 days and revert to the Assembly on their resolution.
