OGUN STATE LAUNCHES HOTLINES TO BATTLE HUMAN TRAFFICKING, CONDEMNS THE “JAPA” SYNDROME

The Ogun State Taskforce on Human Trafficking has cautioned young people of the State against unguided desire to leave the country certainly and the continued nonchalant disposition to government’s appeal for safe migration.

The Head of Education, Media and Publicity for the Taskforce, Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi, stated this warning in a press release, notifying the public of the newly launched Taskforce’s hotlines,

For public inquiry and emergency response on human trafficking and other related issues within the state

Shoremi who stated that migration is every individual’s right condemned the manner at which the ‘Japa’ syndrome is getting celebrated as more people continue to throw caution to the wind not minding the dangers associated with irregular migration.

According to him, “The economy may be unsatisfactory here in the country and the jobs may not be available as expected. But it is crucial to inform our young people that the influx of horrible reports confirmed that the rate of human exploitation is unarguably worse out there.

“There are organized criminal networks, across the world, living large on different forms of modern slavery including organ harvesting, sex trafficking, debt bondage, and domestic servitude.

” The tales of a better life elsewhere may not be truly as narrated,” he said.
