The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspected cultist, Sulaiman Laja, a known member of the Aiye confraternity, for terrorizing residents in the Igbesa area.According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, Laja was apprehended after his suspicious disguised appearance attracted the attention of both residents and officers.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being an active member of the notorious cult group.The arrest led police to Laja’s hideout, where a single-barrel gun, believed to have been used in various criminal activities in the community, was recovered.
“The suspect was sighted in a disguised appearance, arrested, and taken to his hideout. The search led to the recovery of the gun,” Odutola stated. She added that Laja provided crucial information about other fleeing members of his gang, prompting the police to initiate a manhunt.
The suspect and the recovered firearm have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.This operation underscores the police’s continued efforts to dismantle cult networks and restore peace. The command has reassured the public of its commitment to eradicating criminal activities and has urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons to security agencies.
