Ogun State Pursues Partnership with Power Africa to Boost Energy Access
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has initiated discussions with Power Africa to collaborate on enhancing energy infrastructure and providing reliable electricity to the state’s citizens, industries, and businesses.
This development is part of the governor’s vision to ensure 24/7 access to affordable and reliable electricity in Ogun State. According to Governor Abiodun, “Our administration is committed to providing 24/7 affordable and reliable electricity to our citizens, industries, and businesses. We believe that this partnership with Power Africa will help us achieve this vision.”
The governor met with Power Africa’s management team at the Africa Investment Forum in Rabat, Morocco. The meeting focused on exploring opportunities to attract investments, strengthen capacity building, and enhance technical expertise for the newly established Ministry of Energy.
Power Africa is an initiative aimed at increasing access to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa. The organization leverages investments and public-private partnerships to boost energy generation, transmission, and distribution. By partnering with Power Africa, Ogun State aims to tap into the organization’s expertise and resources to enhance its energy infrastructure.
Governor Abiodun emphasized Ogun State’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency through innovative initiatives in gas-to-power projects and renewable energy solutions.
He expressed optimism about collaborating with Power Africa to meet the state’s growing energy demands while fostering sustainable development. “We are committed to achieving energy self-sufficiency in Ogun State, and we believe that this partnership with Power Africa will help us achieve this goal,” Governor Abiodun stated.
In addition to the Power Africa partnership, Prince Abiodun also met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines of Morocco to explore potential partnerships in the mining and hydrocarbon sectors.
This meeting follows Ogun State’s recent designation as a frontier state by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), highlighting the state’s growing significance in Nigeria’s energy landscape. The discussions centered on identifying collaborative opportunities that could unlock Ogun State’s vast mineral and hydrocarbon potential.
Governor Abiodun stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in driving sustainable economic growth and development. “We believe that partnerships are key to driving economic growth and development. By partnering with organizations like Power Africa and the Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines of Morocco, we can tap into their expertise and resources to enhance our energy infrastructure and drive economic growth,” Governor Abiodun explained.
Furthermore, Prince Abiodun met with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, to discuss investment opportunities in Ogun State. These opportunities include livestock value addition, timber processing, renewable energy, and investments in the power sector. Governor Abiodun highlighted the state’s potential for economic growth and development, emphasizing the need for strategic partnerships to drive investment and job creation.
