Ogun State to Commence Reconstruction of Ado-Odo/Abeokuta Road

Relief is on the horizon for motorists and commuters along the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta expressway, as Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced the awarding of a contract for the road’s reconstruction.

Governor Abiodun made this announcement during the commissioning of the Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode road in Yewa South Local Government Area. He stated, “We have just awarded the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta road. It will be the most expensive road this administration has reconstructed. It is 63 kilometers long.”

Describing the road as the second busiest in Nigeria, Abiodun highlighted its critical role in facilitating the evacuation of goods and services from the industrial hub of Ado-Odo/Ota through the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to other parts of the country.

Construction has already begun on the Sagamu-Papalanto road, and the project extending from Papalanto to Ilaro is progressing well. Governor Abiodun emphasized that these efforts are part of his administration’s broader strategy to address infrastructural deficits across Ogun State, ensuring balanced development.

The governor also reiterated his commitment to transforming the region into the country’s food basket and cotton headquarters through strategic agricultural programs. He noted that the Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode road, previously in a deplorable state since 1991, is now part of the infrastructure development plan marking his administration’s fifth anniversary.

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, praised the reconstruction efforts, stating that the improved road conditions would reduce accidents, kidnappings, and robberies, and revive local businesses. Former Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba also commended the project, recalling the area’s historical significance as a food supplier to Ogun State and Lagos.

Engr. Ade Akinsanya, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, outlined that the road’s completion will spur socio-economic development and attract investors, thereby generating employment opportunities for the youth.

Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, expressed gratitude for the project, noting that previous state and federal administrations had neglected the road. He commended Governor Abiodun and the National Assembly members from the senatorial district for their collaborative efforts to improve the region’s infrastructure.
