Ogun Transport Unions Pledge to Mitigate Fare Hikes Amid Fuel Price Increase

Following a meeting with Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, transport union leaders in Ogun State have vowed to collaborate with the government to minimize the impact of recent fuel price increases on transportation fares.

The Chairman of the Ogun State Park Management Scheme (OGSPAM), Alhaji Akeem Bodunrin, assured that the unions will comply with the Governor’s desire to ease the burden on citizens. He noted that union tickets have not been increased, and the emergence of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and e-bikes is expected to reduce fuel costs.

Alhaji Mustapha Ismail, state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), urged patience from the public, referencing the upcoming introduction of 100 CNG-enabled buses by the state government and 20 by the Federal Government. He expressed confidence that transportation costs will decrease soon.

Other union leaders, including Alhaji Titilayo Akibu of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and Alhaji Samsudeen of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), commended Governor Abiodun’s initiatives and pledged support for his vision.

Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, state chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), noted the positive impact of e-bikes on transport fares and called for a friendly price regime in various business endeavors.

The transport unions have assured the public of their commitment to reducing the cost of transportation in the state, highlighting the benefits of the CNG-enabled buses and e-bikes introduced by the government.
