Ondo Police Arrest Two Students Over Alleged Conspiracy and Rape of 20-Year-Old Victim

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended two students from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, in connection with the alleged conspiracy and sexual assault of a 20-year-old female student.

Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday, emphasizing the police force’s increased efforts to combat serious crimes.

Initial investigations indicate that the victim was lured to the residence of her close friend, Queen Sodo, a 19-year-old undergraduate at the university. The victim, who has known Sodo since secondary school, accepted a drink that was later discovered to have been laced with drugs, which caused her to become unconscious.

Ayanlade explained that once Sodo noticed the victim was incapacitated, she reportedly left the room, called in her male accomplice, and kept watch as the crime took place. A neighbor, hearing unusual noises, rushed into the apartment and found the victim unconscious alongside the male suspect.

The victim was promptly taken for medical attention and was later transferred to a specialized facility, where she is currently recovering. Both suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles in the incident and identified the substances and items involved, including the drug-laced drink.

Key evidence, such as the illicit drink, has been recovered and corroborated by both the victim and the suspects. The suspects are currently in lawful detention and will be handed over to the Gender Desk Office for further investigation and prosecution.

Ayanlade assured the public that law enforcement will ensure justice is served, regardless of the suspects’ familiarity with the victim. He also urged parents and guardians to educate their children on caution in relationships, warning that even longstanding friendships can be exploited for criminal purposes.
