Mr. Oresanya a strong advocate for the recycling and reuse of waste materials ; An inspiration to all
One of Remo’s industrious and creative son, worth celebrating is Mr. Ola Oresanya, the Commissioner for Environmental in Ogun State.
Ola Oresanya hails from Remo, Ogun State, and had his education at Remo Secondary School from 1973 to 1978, before proceeding to the University of Ibadan where he bagged his first degree in Geology. His love for advancement led him to bag his Masters in Environmental Management and Ecology from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and another degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA.
Of his love for a better living and a good ecosystem for his fatherland, Mr. Ola Oresanya returned to the country to give his quota back to his country. And since his return, he has been able to turn around a lot in regard to waste management. His feat in Lagos State was beyond words and actions. Some believed it is a miracle. Under his management as Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the once dirty and rough Lagos State experienced a turnaround in its waste management.
One might think he’d stop his patriotism there, but alas, Mr. Ola Oresanya was just getting started. He went ahead to co-found Globetech Remedial Limited, a leading waste and resource management company, whose project structure maintains a strong foundation of trust and mutual respect. Years after, he became Special adviser to the Ogun State government on Environment and then Commissioner for Environment, a position he holds currently.
Mr. Oresanya is a strong advocate for the recycling and reuse of waste materials and has developed several waste management initiatives, including the Lagos State Waste Management Master Plan (a model for other cities in Africa) and the Ogun State Waste Management Strategy. He is also a mentor to young people interested in pursuing careers in waste management.
A true waste warrior, Mr. Oresanya is passionate about making Africa a cleaner and healthier place. He is a valuable asset to the Ogun State government and is poised to make a significant impact on the environment of the state.
Here are some of his notable achievements: oversaw the transformation of LAWMA from a loss-making organization to a profitable one; Increased the recycling rate in Lagos State from 5% to 30%; Developed the Ogun State Waste Management Strategy, which is designed to make Ogun State a clean and healthy state; Encouraged the participation of the private sector in waste management in Ogun State.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Oresanya is also a respected community leader, friendly alumnus, and philanthropist. He is a member of several non-profit organizations and has donated generously to several charitable causes. He is a true inspiration to us all.
