OOU Students Urged to Stay Composed Amidst Investigation into Suspected Murder of Colleague

Olusegun Kaka, the Chairman of the Ogun State House Assembly Committee on Information, Culture, and Tourism, has appealed to the students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, to maintain their composure while all of their complaints on the events surrounding the suspected murder of their colleague, Oluwatosin Onadipe, a graduate of computer science, were being handled.

At a peace dialogue with OOU Student Union government representatives on Monday at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the lawmaker made the appeal under the direction of Vice President Taofeek Quadri.

Onadipe, a university graduate in computer science, was reported to have been attacked on December 17 while sharing the gospel at the Ago-Iwoye Motor Park at the Chips filling station in Ago-Iwoye.

It was rumoured that a former chairman of the car park, who was offended by the young man’s preaching, struck him with an iron.

It was reported that the police had stepped in and removed the injured Onadipe from the area, possibly so he could receive medical attention.

But in a bizarre turn of events that the Ogun State Police Command is still trying to figure out, Onadipe’s mutilated body was subsequently discovered at Ijesa Ijebu Road, some 20 minutes’ drive from the location where the police had picked him up.

The congressman expressed sympathy to the deceased’s family and coworkers while pointing out that the state’s commissioner of police, Abiodun Alamutu, had pledged to see to it that those police officers who were suspected of being engaged in the murder, as well as other offenders, faced justice.

Along with another lawmaker, Damilola Soneye, Kaka urged the students to carry on with their nonviolent protests in order to bring justice to their departed colleague. She also promised that anyone found guilty of the horrible act would undoubtedly be held accountable by the law.

He pledged to step in and communicate with those concerned about the other issues brought up, such as the recent increase in school fees, transportation, and other unspecified issues.

The vice president of the OOU SUG bemoaned earlier in his speech the suspected murder of their late comrade at the Ago-Iwoye Motor Park with the help of some police officers, and he urged the appropriate authorities to see to it that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice.

Additionally, Quadri asked the lawmakers to pay attention to the need to intervene in the recent hike in their school fees, request an increment in the subsidy to their institution, and provide more buses to ease their movements.
