Opposition Criticizes Tinubu’s First Year, APC Defends Achievements

One year into President Bola Tinubu’s administration, opposition parties have harshly criticized the government’s performance, arguing it has failed to deliver a better life for Nigerians.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in particular, described Tinubu’s first year as the most challenging since the Civil War, citing worsening economic conditions and rising insecurity. According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, Tinubu’s policies, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the Naira, have increased poverty and hardship.

The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) echoed similar sentiments, condemning the administration for its perceived failures in economic management, security, and public welfare. ADC National Chairman Ralphs Okey Nwosu criticized the government’s initial fuel price hike, calling it “callous” and “dangerous,” while CUPP National Spokesperson Mark Adebayo argued that the administration has only deepened poverty and disillusionment among Nigerians.

In contrast, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) defended its record. APC National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed the opposition’s claims as baseless, asserting that President Tinubu has provided clear direction and tangible benefits to the country. Ibrahim claimed that the opposition is “a coalition of confused people” who are out of touch with the progress being made.
