Pad a Girl Child” Outreach Touches Lives of Over 17,000 Girls Across Nigeria
Ogun State, Nigeria – May 29, 2025 – In a country where thousands of adolescent girls still miss school every month due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products, one organization is working relentlessly to change the narrative.
On Wednesday, May 28, non-profit organization Pure Impacts Inspirational Network visited three schools across Nigeria as part of its flagship project, Pad a Girl Child, distributing free sanitary pads and providing menstrual hygiene education to hundreds of young girls.
This effort adds to a growing record of impact, as the organization has now reached over 17,000 girls across several Nigerian states — including Ogun, Anambra, Enugu, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, and others — through its various outreach programs focused on menstrual health, girl empowerment, and education support.
“Many of these girls are truly struggling in silence,” said Elizabeth, Founder of Pure Impacts Inspirational Network. “Some have no choice but to stay home during their period. Some resort to using tissue paper or unhygienic materials simply because they cannot afford sanitary pads. When girls are not comfortable, they cannot focus, they cannot participate, and they start falling behind. We are working to change that.”
During the sessions, the girls not only received sanitary pads but also participated in open conversations that aimed to demystify menstruation and encourage body confidence and self-awareness.
Their teachers described the outreach as “timely and life-changing,” noting that such programs address both the physical and emotional needs of their female students while also reducing absenteeism.
One teacher remarked, “This is the first time many of our girls are hearing this kind of open, respectful discussion about their own health. They feel seen and supported. We are so grateful.”
The Pad a Girl Child initiative continues in celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, with a larger goal of donating 3,000 sanitary pads to 3,000 girls across five Nigerian states. So far, three states have been covered, while the remaining two states will be visited in the coming weeks.
“We are doing what we can with what we have, but we cannot do it alone,” added Sodiya. “We are inviting individuals, corporate organizations, development agencies, and school districts to partner with us and be a part of this movement. Every girl reached is a future restored.”
