PDP Chieftain Kidnapped In Oyo State
Benedict Akika, a distinguished chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, has been kidnapped by gunmen. The incident occurred on Wednesday night at his residence in Olorunda, Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers, who were heavily armed, stormed Akika’s residence and threatened to shoot anyone who resisted. A family source revealed that Akika was relaxing with his family when the gunmen arrived, and he was subsequently whisked away to an unknown destination.
The kidnappers reportedly fired sporadic gunshots to scare off residents and passersby. The motive behind the kidnapping is still unclear, but it is believed to be a targeted attack.
Akika, a well-known philanthropist, had recently empowered widows and the less privileged with work tools worth millions of naira at his residence.
The Oyo State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report.
