PDP Expels Key Members Including Wike and Fayose During 2025 Convention in Ibadan to Reinforce Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a decisive step during its ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, by expelling several high-profile members for alleged anti-party activities. Among those expelled are Federal Capital Minister Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, SAN Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Governor Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, and others.
The move was quickly approved by an overwhelming majority of delegates, emphasizing the party’s dedication to restoring unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The official PDP statement, shared via its social media channels, outlined the decision: “In a landmark move to restore unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, has expelled high-profile members Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Governor Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, and others.”
It further noted: “The decision, which was promptly ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, underscores the party’s commitment to eradicating internal divisions and anti-party conduct that have hindered its progress.”
Reports indicate that the motion for expulsion was moved by Chief Olabode George, a former national vice-chairman (South), and seconded by Samaila Buga, chairman of the PDP in Bauchi. The final vote was conducted via voice, led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, who presided over the session.
As of now, none of the expelled members have issued official statements regarding their expulsion.
In response, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, reacted subtly via his X account. He dismissed the convention as a social gathering, stating, “They went to Ibadan to start dirty December in November. When people decided to start their own dirty December in November, one can’t but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths. They gathered in Ibadan to do social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated, they are free to say anything.”
