Tensions are rising within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two conflicting factions prepare to hold separate meetings at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Tuesday. The dispute centers around control of the party’s secretariat, with both factions claiming legitimacy and attempting to assert dominance over the party’s leadership.

One faction is led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, who was recently elected as the PDP National Chairman at the party’s National Elective Convention in Ibadan. Turaki announced on Monday evening that the faction would hold an inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party’s headquarters. This declaration came after Turaki submitted a petition to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Garki, protesting against the recent expulsion of some members.

Opposing Turaki’s faction is the group loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who was expelled from the party recently. Wike’s supporters had announced an emergency meeting scheduled to take place at the NEC Hall of the National Secretariat. Samuel Anyanwu, the faction’s National Secretary, confirmed the meeting, emphasizing their intention to address internal party issues amid the ongoing leadership crisis.

The situation has become highly volatile, with both factions preparing to convene at the same location on the same day, raising fears of a potential clash. Turaki, speaking to journalists, affirmed that his faction would proceed with the meeting as scheduled, insisting that “nothing will stop” them from holding the NEC gathering at Wadata Plaza.

The conflicting plans highlight the deep divisions within the PDP following recent leadership disputes, threatening to further destabilize the party’s unity ahead of upcoming political activities. The party’s future direction remains uncertain as these factions prepare to face off at its national headquarters.
