Peter Obi’s media team, POMT, has strongly criticized the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its recent comments attacking Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. POMT emphasized that true patriotism involves speaking the truth to those in power, rather than praising failure or engaging in political attacks.
The controversy arose after APC accused Obi of exploiting a sensitive national issue for political gain. This stemmed from Obi’s reaction to former US President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian persecution. Obi remarked that Trump’s declaration should serve as a wake-up call for Nigerians, highlighting Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, loss of lives, and property destruction. His comments aimed to draw attention to the dire state of the nation’s security and international reputation.
In response, APC accused Obi of politicizing the issue instead of demonstrating statesmanship. However, POMT fired back, asserting that attacking Obi reveals the ruling party’s reluctance to confront Nigeria’s deepening crises. They argued that patriotism is not about silence in the face of national decay but about having the courage to speak out against it. POMT added that Nigeria’s many problems—rampant insecurity, unemployment, corruption, economic stagnation, and international embarrassment—necessitate honest dialogue and responsible leadership.
The statement further criticized the APC government for prioritizing political propaganda over effective governance. POMT pointed out that if the government had been as effective in solving Nigeria’s problems as it is in attacking opposition voices, the country wouldn’t be ranked among the most insecure, indebted, and impoverished nations globally. The message from POMT was clear: true patriotism involves speaking truth to power, especially when the nation is in distress.
