Plateau Violence: Authorities Vow Justice After Deadly Attack on Gwom Gada.
Suspected Fulani herders and cattle rustlers launched a brutal attack on the Gwom Gada community in Kadunu Ward, Gindiri area of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Friday. The assault resulted in the tragic death of four siblings and left two others critically injured. The assailants also stole an unspecified number of cattle belonging to Alhaji Tanko Adamu.
The Chairman of Mangu Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Mwolpun, confirmed the incident through a statement issued on his behalf by his Press Director, Jerry Dakahap. According to the statement, heavily armed gunmen invaded the community, opening fire and shooting sporadically. Tragically, four children, aged between 2 and 18, were caught in the crossfire and killed. Two neighbors were also critically wounded during the attack.
Hon. Mwolpun, who visited Gwom Gada on Sunday to console the affected families and the community, condemned the violence as inhumane and unacceptable. He assured residents that security agencies had been directed to intensify their efforts to apprehend the attackers and deliver justice. “We are deeply saddened by this senseless violence. We stand with the community and the affected families, and we will do everything possible to support efforts to prevent future incidents,” he stated.
The Chairman emphasized the need for increased security presence in the area, urging authorities to protect residents from such attacks. The community remains in shock and has called for heightened security measures to prevent similar tragedies.
Additionally, Col. Fagbemi, the Mangu Sector Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, who accompanied the Chairman, assured that more security personnel would be deployed immediately to safeguard the community and prevent a recurrence of such violence.
