Police Confirm First Lady’s Convoy Wasn’t Involved in Ondo Road Accident
The Ondo State Police Command has labeled as untrue a report claiming that a vehicle in the convoy of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu caused the death of a nine-year-old girl in Akure on Thursday. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, released a statement refuting the allegations, which he described as unfounded and misleading.
“The Ondo State Police Command has become aware of a false report published by Sahara Reporters on April 17, which suggested that the first lady’s convoy was involved in the tragic death of a young girl in Akure,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations and eyewitness accounts indicated that the actual incident was the result of a hit-and-run driver in an unregistered white Lexus vehicle. A witness, Ayanlade, reported that he pursued the fleeing driver immediately after the collision, which took place in the Oba-Ile neighborhood of Akure.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State personally visited the bereaved family, promising a thorough and transparent investigation into the accident. “At no time was the first lady’s convoy implicated in this tragedy,” the spokesperson reiterated.
During her visit to Ondo State, the First Lady was there to launch the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and distribute 10,000 professional kits, including Crocs and scrubs, to midwives in the South-West region.
