Police Identify Officers in Viral Video Receiving Money from Chinese Nationals, Pledge Disciplinary Action
The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of several officers shown in a viral video accepting money from a Chinese national, labeling their behavior as “unprofessional and unethical.”
The incident has led to widespread outrage online, prompting the force headquarters to identify the officers involved and initiate disciplinary action against them.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police affirmed their commitment to professionalism and maintaining public trust.
“The Nigeria Police Force acknowledges a troubling video circulating in the media, which depicts police officers receiving money from a Chinese national,” the statement noted. “We firmly condemn the behavior exhibited by these officers, deeming it both unprofessional and unethical.”
Adejobi stressed that such actions contradict the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force, stating, “These actions do not align with the principles that guide our organization. We maintain zero tolerance for any unprofessional behavior and misconduct that damages public trust.”
He confirmed that the officers have been identified and are currently facing disciplinary procedures, though details regarding the specific sanctions remain undisclosed. He reassured the public that justice would be served.
The police force also issued a warning to individuals and organizations utilizing police services like escorts and guards, urging them to avoid actions that could compromise the integrity of their officers and tarnish the force’s reputation.
“The Nigeria Police Force cautions those who benefit from police personnel services to refrain from any acts that may undermine our officers’ integrity,” Adejobi advised.
This incident occurs amidst the Force’s ongoing efforts to restore public confidence and ensure accountability within its ranks. Adejobi urged the public to continue supporting the police reform agenda, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to transparency and professionalism. “We are committed to discipline and service in accordance with international best practices,” he stated.
