Police Prohibit Sallah Durbar Festivities in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has officially prohibited all Sallah Durbar celebrations statewide in anticipation of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr festivities, citing security concerns.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori made the announcement during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, highlighting the need to prevent potential unrest during the celebrations.
Bakori explained that intelligence reports have revealed plans by certain groups to disrupt the Durbar festivities and incite instability. Following consultations with the Kano State Government and other relevant stakeholders, the decision to ban the events was deemed necessary.
“In our efforts to ensure a safe and secure celebration and uphold public order, the police command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has evaluated the rising tensions surrounding the Durbar activities,” Bakori stated. “Based on credible intelligence suggesting that some may misuse the Durbar as a means for unrest, we have imposed a ban on all related activities for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.”
The police commissioner urged worshippers to hold their Eid prayers only at designated locations and to follow security guidelines, which include refraining from carrying suspicious items, riding horses (Kilisa), engaging in car racing, or driving recklessly. He also advised parents and guardians to educate their children on the importance of avoiding any disruptive behavior.
The public is reminded to avoid actions that could disturb the peace or lead to a breakdown of law and order.
CP Bakori assured residents that sufficient security personnel will be deployed to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration. “As we commemorate this joyful occasion, let us prioritize peace, put aside our differences, and unite as responsible citizens for the betterment of our state and nation,” he urged.
