Police Recover Machetes and Knives from Suspected Gang Members in Bauchi.
The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully detained 14 suspected members of the notorious Sara-Suka gangs during a targeted operation in several neighborhoods, including Bakaro, Kofar Dumi, Tudun Yarima, and Kofar Madaki. The police also recovered dangerous weapons such as machetes and knives from the suspects, who had been terrorizing residents in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the arrests were made on January 15, 2026, around 4:30 pm, following reports of increasing criminal activities by the gang members. The suspects, aged between 18 and 22, were caught armed and reportedly engaged in various criminal acts, including phone snatching, cash theft, and inflicting injuries on residents.
The operation was led by CSP Hassan A. Musa, the Divisional Police Officer of A Division, Bauchi. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crimes. The suspects include Abbati (20), Mamman (21), Adamu (22), Khalid (20), Abubakar (19), Mahmood (22), Jabir (21), Haruna (18), Kabiru (20), Anas (20), Mohammed (19), and Abdulkarim (22).
The police have commended the cooperation of the community in providing information that led to the arrests. The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities to maintain peace and safety in Bauchi. The crackdown on the Sara-Suka gang is part of ongoing efforts to curb street violence and restore order in the area.
