President Bola Tinubu Honored with Lifetime African Achievement Award by Ghana’s Millennium Excellence Foundation

President Bola Tinubu has been awarded the Lifetime African Achievement Award by the Millennium Excellence Foundation, based in Ghana, according to reports by NAN on Monday.
During the award presentation, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and patron of the Foundation, for the invitation and for organizing a successful event. He was represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who received the award as the special guest of honor at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Millennium Excellence Prize in Kumasi, Ghana.
In his remarks, President Tinubu praised the foundation’s 25-year legacy, saying, “I salute the visionaries who have nurtured this institution for a quarter of a century and also celebrate the values of honour, integrity, service, and excellence that underpin its work.” He commended the foundation for recognizing Africa’s outstanding individuals whose contributions have uplifted the continent and inspired future generations.
He highlighted notable past honorees such as the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Prof. Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr. Mo Ibrahim. Tinubu encouraged young Africans to rise with courage and contribute to making Africa more united, peaceful, and prosperous. He emphasized the importance of advancing progress in science, technology, education, governance, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
Furthermore, he urged Africans to collaborate closely in shaping their shared destiny and called on the event organizers to continue inspiring excellence, uphold leadership values rooted in service, and invest in youth to foster cross-border cooperation.
“The award ceremony, since its inception in 1988, has served as a beacon of inspiration and recognition across the continent,” Tinubu stated. “Its mission to identify, celebrate, and support individuals who have distinguished themselves in advancing African development aligns deeply with Nigeria’s and Africa’s aspirations.”
At the event, Tinubu was presented with the Lifetime African Achievement Prize. Other awards included the Global Intra-African Trade Excellence Award, which was received by Dr. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM). Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, received the Lifetime Achievement Prize for Governance and Public Service. Alhaji AbdulSamad Rabiu, founder and chairman of the BUA Group, was honored with the African Excellence in Business award, and Mr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs received the African Traditional Leadership and Business Excellence award.
