President Tinubu Returns to Nigeria, Set to Swear in New Chief Justice

President Bola Tinubu arrived back in Nigeria’s capital city in the early hours of Friday, August 23, 2024, following a brief working visit to France. The President’s return coincided with the swearing-in of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, replacing outgoing Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
In a statement, President Tinubu praised Ariwoola’s dedication to public service, highlighting his over three decades of commitment to the nation’s judiciary. Ariwoola, who served as CJN since June 27, 2022, bowed out upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Justice Kekere-Ekun, 66, set to take the reins as acting CJN pending her confirmation by the Senate. Her tenure is expected to last until her retirement in 2028. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11 am on Friday at the State House Council Chambers.
