President Tinubu Urges Civil Servants to Alleviate Hardship, Warns Against Unacceptable Bureaucracy

President Bola Tinubu has issued a warning to senior civil servants, urging them not to exacerbate the country’s tough situation and increase the vulnerability of the people.

During a meeting with the Head of Service, The Body Of Permanent Secretaries, and some Directors-General of agencies, Tinubu charged civil servants to expedite interventions on the economy and programs targeting vulnerable citizens, emphasizing the need for urgency, diligence, and a strong sense of duty.

President Tinubu expressed intolerance for ineffectiveness and unnecessary bureaucracy that leads to delays in addressing economic challenges. He directed the Head Of Service to provide monthly briefings and key performance indicator (KPI) reports for review, and scheduled quarterly interactive meetings between him and The Body of Permanent Secretaries.

In a statement, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of public servants thinking and working with a generational understanding of their role in shaping national history. He highlighted their impact on more than 200 million people in the country and abroad, urging them to contribute to changing the narrative about Nigeria and Africa.

Tinubu called on civil servants to fulfill the pledge of bringing people out of poverty, urging them not to increase vulnerability but to help Nigerians overcome challenges without unacceptable delays. Before the meeting, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, briefed President Tinubu on the service’s performance based on previously established KPIs.
