Put Aside Selfish Agenda, Appoint a Competent Coach for Super Eagles

Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Enoh, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to prioritize the nation’s interest over personal agendas in appointing a new coach for the Super Eagles.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Enoh emphasized the need for a “first-class coach with a track record and pedigree,” capable of earning the respect of both players and fans. “It has to be a name that will inspire the spirit of our nation,” Enoh stated.

However, the NFF had previously announced plans to hire a foreign technical adviser following the team’s underwhelming results against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Similarly, media personality, Saheed Afolabi, echoed the minister’s sentiments but also advocated for the inclusion of indigenous coaches in the national team’s setup. “The NFF needs to put away selfish agendas and focus on getting the best coach to turn the fortune of the Super Eagles,” Afolabi remarked. He highlighted the achievements of local coaches like Emmanuel Amunike.

Afolabi further criticized past decisions, such as the appointment of Finidi George, and urged the NFF to make choices based on merit and national interest. “It wouldn’t be proper for Nigeria to miss out on the World Cup twice in succession,” he added.
