Remo Stars Football Club etched their name into Nigerian football history on Sunday, May 11, 2025, as they were officially crowned champions of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), following a resounding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The celebratory atmosphere reached its peak when Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, presented the coveted NPFL trophy to the Ogun-based side amid thunderous cheers from a sea of jubilant fans. The moment marked a watershed in the club’s journey, sealing their first-ever top-flight title and underlining a season of sheer dominance.
The match began with a scare for the hosts as Ikorodu City drew first blood in the 15th minute. However, the Sky Blue Stars responded with purpose and precision. Talismanic forward Sikiru Alimi restored parity in the 37th minute before Ibrahim Shuaib gave them the lead just four minutes later.
Birthday boy Babatunde Bello made it a celebration to remember, scoring the third goal in the 48th minute, and Olamilekan Adedayo completed the rout in the 67th, sparking early celebrations across the stadium.
With the commanding win, Remo Stars climbed to 71 points, an unassailable tally that confirmed them as league champions with a game to spare. The triumph marks the first time a Southwest club has lifted the NPFL trophy since Julius Berger’s title run in 1991.
