Rivers State’s Political Future: Fubara Expected to Secure APC Nomination in 2027.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Emeka Bekee, has confidently stated that Governor Siminalyi Fubara will seek a second term in the 2027 governorship election under the APC. Bekee made this declaration on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, amid ongoing political rivalry between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and Fubara.
Bekee also hinted that recent defections of several governors to the APC might automatically secure them tickets for their second term bids. However, he clarified that no one, including Fubara, would receive an automatic ticket without contest. He explained that the APC conducts primaries through various methods such as consensus and voice votes, and that Fubara would need to purchase a nomination form to run under the party’s banner in 2027.
The APC chieftain emphasized that the party’s internal processes would determine the candidate, and if Fubara emerges victorious in the primary, he would be the official APC candidate for the next election. Bekee expressed optimism about Rivers State’s political future, asserting that the state should focus on development rather than crises. He also noted that if there’s an agreement between the central government and the governors for a second term, Fubara’s chances of securing another term are assured.
Then Bekee maintained that Fubara’s reelection bid is inevitable, provided he navigates the party’s primary process, and called for unity among Rivers’ political stakeholders to ensure steady progress for the state.
