Sagamu Residents Cry Out Over Indiscriminate Refuse Dumping, Fear Disease Outbreak

Residents of Sagamu have expressed deep concern over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and public spaces, warning of an imminent disease outbreak if urgent action is not taken.

According to residents, shop owners and some individuals have been dumping waste without regard for designated disposal areas, causing unsightly heaps and potential health hazards.

“We are begging the government to intervene,” said a resident, who preferred anonymity. “The refuse has been here for months, attracting flies and emitting a terrible smell. We fear an outbreak of diseases like cholera, typhoid, and mosquito-borne illnesses.”

“The situation is appalling. Drainages are blocked, and floodwaters carry the filth into our homes. We urge the authorities to clear these refuse dumps and enforce proper waste management practices.”
